- "You can never have too many tiger pits, Chancellor. That’s the same lack of vision that has people say 'that’s too large a field of energy to absorb' or 'calling yourself a living god is blasphemy'."
- ―Dread Emperor Malignant III, before his death and second reign as Dread Emperor Revenant[1]
Malignant the Third, who later reigned as Revenant during his undeath, was a former Dread Emperor of Praes. He was the first Tyrant to rule as an undead. After his reign the Tower has largely suppressed most writings ascribed to Trismesgitus, the Dead King.[2]
Reign[]
During his reign as Malignant the Third, he was very fond of tiger pits.[1] He killed himself, along with his entire family, through ritual to rise again as an undead a year later, dethroning his successor.[3] The ritual was based on the Dead King’s Kabbalis Book of Darkness stored in the Tower.
Tikoloshe, Masego’s father, knew the Emperor as both living and undead and he believed him to not return in full. The ritual was potentially sabotaged by the Dead King, incomplete or performed improperly.[4]
During his reign as Revenant he initiated a Praesi civil war called the First War of the Dead.[5][6]
His reign was used as the basis for the legal argument that nowadays excludes undead from claiming the Tower.[4]
