This page contains guidelines for content formatting, formulated on the PGTE Discord channel #Wiki. This is a work in progress, and more guidelines will be added over time. If you want something specific added, or changed, please join us there for a chat or contact an Administrator. Note that many older pages do not yet follow these guidelines; if you edit one which doesn't, you are encouraged to reformat it so that it does (wholly or in part) but if you prefer you may also let it keep its old structure and only change the content. However, please do not introduce further deviations from the recommended structure.

Character pages[]

A Character page is a page that describes a person, and should not be confused with a Name page which describe a Name. In general, any Named character should have both a Character page and a Name page, with the former describing the person holding the Name and the latter the Name itself (which may have had more than one known holder). Compare Catherine Foundling (with more than one Name) and Squire (with more than one holder).

A Character page should start with the Character infobox template, optionally followed by the Quote template, and a short introductory paragraph which should be free of spoilers for the later books. After that should come the following sections (in the order given here), although any section for which there is no data can be omitted. Instead of the bold typeface used here, sections should be marked as "Headings" (== when using the Source Editor). The page should be placed in the category Characters, as well as (if applicable) in Heroes, Villains and/or Historical Figures.

If there is need, a section Timeline can be added directly after Biography to describe e.g. how specific dates were calculated, how conflicting data was resolved (or not) and other similar considerations that might not fit well in the main biographical text.

If there is sufficient data, the Biography section may be split into subsections as suggested below; the part after the dash can be adjusted according to what makes more sense for an individual article, subsections with no data should be omitted and those with very little data may be joined with adjacent subsections if suitable. A summary (which does not need to be spoiler-free) may also be added before the first subsection. Instead of the italic typeface used here, subsections should be marked as "Sub-heading 1" (=== when using the Source Editor).

  • Book 2 – Liesse Rebellion
  • Book 3 – Arcadian Campaign
  • Book 3 – Second Liesse

  • Book 5 – Princes’ Graveyard

If needed, Appearance may have a subsection Equipment.

The section Epigraphs is for the quotes found at the top of each chapter; each should be preceded by the chapter name in bold typeface (not a sub-heading).

Name pages[]

A Name page is a page that describes a Name, and should not be confused with a Character page which describe a specific character. In general, any Named character should have both a Character page and a Name page, with the former describing the person holding the Name and the latter the Name itself (which may have had more than one known holder); compare Catherine Foundling (with more than one Name) and Squire (with more than one holder). However, in cases where the name of the holder is not known, personal information about them may instead be placed in the Known Holders section on the Name page.

A Name page should start with the Name infobox template, followed by a short introductory paragraph which should be free of spoilers for the later books. After that should come the following sections (in the order given here), although any section for which there is no data can be omitted. Instead of the bold typeface used here, sections should be marked as "Headings" (== when using the Source Editor). The page should be placed in the category Names, and possibly (if applicable) Transitional Names, but Name pages should not be placed in Heroes, Villains or Historical Figures unless the name of the holder is not known.

Source references[]

References to Guide chapters should include a link to the chapter and give the book and chapter name, preferably in this format[1] (but a non-standard reference is better than no reference at all, as long as it is correct). If the relevant text is short enough to be quoted, it may be added after the link (like this[2]); if you’re using the visual editor, you will need to switch to the source editor to add the quote (put it between the ] and the </ref>), but the reference itself can be created in the visual editor if you prefer that.
