"We should never forget that for a great evil to be defeated, a lesser evil must first become great."
―Queen Eleanor Fairfax, founder of the Fairfax dynasty[1]

Eleanor Fairfax is considered one of the most famous Callowan monarchs, along with the Queen of Blades and Jehan the Wise. She founded the Fairfax Dynasty and was the leader of the First Crusade which overthrew the Dread Empress Triumphant.[2]

General Information[]

Named the Rebel Knight during the First Crusade, Eleanor is described as idealistic despite being touched by the Choir of Contrition, known for taking those who commit and unforgivable crime.[3][2]

Along with the queen of Daoine she was one of the first rebels against the Dread Empire and is partially responsible for annexing the Kingdom of Daoine into a duchy under Callow. She was allegedly in a sexual relationship with the queen of said kingdom which helped with diplomacy, but the political union was largely motivated by fears of Praesi resurgence and a fragile state of Daoine at the time.[4]

She’s rumoured to wear a crown of bell lilies as a sign of victory and bells later became part of heraldry of house Fairfax though that was likely inspired by the ancient bells in Laure.[5] Akua Sahelian mentions she became the queen by popular acclaim and through her martial prowess.[6]

There’s an alabaster statue of her located in Dormer and she’s mentioned in the song Red The Flowers, perhaps in the sense that the polities which made up the First Crusade swore oaths to her which were eventually broken when Callow was occupied.[7][3]

She’s had children, as her grandson is mentioned to have made changes in how the royal line ruled. She’s granted privilege to voice thoughts and questions freely to the person declared as Wizard of the West. Her Name after becoming a queen is unknown, it’s likely it was a popular queen variant in Callow such as the Good Queen.[8][9]
