The Summer Court is an organization of Fae that live in Arcadia. The Summer Court is one of many similar versions of Arcadia that occur on different continents. This is due to the fact that Arcadia is a symbolic "reflection" of the physical world, and so reflects different aspects in different places. It is the polar opposite of the Winter Court. It is theorized that it symbolically represents heroism on Calernia. As an organization of Fae, it is extremely intertwined with popular stories. It has three central goals, that the Queen of Summer is forced to achieve. These are to destroy the Winter Court, to protect Aine, the capital of the Summer Court, and to see the Sun victorious, which has unclear meaning, presumed to be to achieve victory.
The Summer Court is modeled after a feudal society, similar to the rest of Calernia. The Fae are ruled by a Queen or a King, followed by several tiers of nobles. However, these noble titles have inherent power, allowing Fae nobles to have a myriad of different powers, usually involving aspects of plant growth, fire, or magic. The higher the tier of noble, the greater the magical power, causing the King or Queen to be the strongest Fae in the entire court.
Every year, the Summer Court is involved in conflict with the Winter Court. Regardless of the winner, both of the Courts are eventually destroyed, which causes the formation of the Autumn and Spring Courts. These Courts eventually turn to the Winter and Summer Courts through some event. However, when the Summer Court is reformed, Nobles can be reformed with different titles, causing them to act in different ways. This causes the Summer Court to change every year.
Notable Persons Edit
As the Summer Court is extremely mutable, these persons may change their title or even name over the course of the story. In descending order of nobility, these are some notable members:
The Queen of Summer, Ista (Also known as the Princess of the Morning Star)
The Princess of High Noon, Sulia
The Prince of Deep Drought, Granian
The Prince of Burning Embers
Events in Story Edit
In Book 2, the Winter Court invades Callow, causing the Summer Court to invade Callow as well. They attack Diabolist at Liesse and take control of the city of Dormer. Catherine Foundling defeats part of the army of the Summer Court at the Battle of Five Armies and One and steals the sun from Arcadia with the help of the Woe. The Summer Queen attempts to kill the Woe while they are still in Arcadia, but is attacked by Ranger. Catherine Foundling goes on to siege Dormer, and force the Queen to agree to her terms. This causes the Summer Court to dissolve, forming into a united Fae Court.
